Worksheet:
1. How to prepare and
structure efficient presentations
|
English Development Programme
Subject:
|
|
What are you going to say? |
- does the audience know about the subject? - make notes (eg one page)
rather than writing the presentation and reading it - how long will
the presentation be? - what equipment is available? (and can you use
it - and have you tried?) - what message(s)
do you want the audience to remember? (maximum 3) - If you are making
an argument, why do you want them to agree with you? - If they already
agree with you, why are you giving the speech? - Is the language,
body language of the presentation suitable for the task eg: ...motivation
... selling ... whatever? |
|
Think about the structure of
the presentation |
| Beginning of the
presentation (10% of your
time): 1.
Introduce the idea - logically
2. Summarise for the audience what you are going to talk about (3
or 4 short headings)
3. Always mention your main point and major supporting points
within the first few minutes of any presentation. |
| Middle part of the
presentation (80% of your time): 1.
Give more detail about each of the headings
2. Refer back to previous comments
3. be enthusiastic, vary your voice intonation
4. Share your experience 5. Refer forward to the possibility to
ask questions |
| End of the presentation (10% of your time): 1. What
message do you want the audience to remember? 2. Answer any
questions. 3. Check that the audience has understood |
|
|
Practice |
1. Use the notes and practise the presentation. 2. Make sure the
audience can hear you.
3. Stand comfortably.
4. Try to look at the audience as much as possible, in front of you,
to the sides - everywhere.
|
|
Other issues. |
1. Check the equipment / computer system / slide projector / OHP before
the presentation 2. Check again! |
